"Ukrzaliznytsia" orders new-generation cars for 1.1 billion UAH
Ukrzaliznytsia has signed a contract with the Kryukiv Railway Car Building Works for the supply of 10 new-generation passenger cars with a total value of 1.091 billion UAH including VAT. Delivery is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
Together with the contract for 92 cars, which the company signed last month, the total volume of orders this year has reached 102 passenger cars. Ukrzaliznytsia calls this figure a record.
The new cars will have a service life extended by approximately 20 years compared to current models, longer intervals between repairs, and will require fewer personnel for maintenance.
They will also be equipped with powerful batteries, electric heating, sealed inter-car gangways, and a wider body with "T" gauge. This will, in particular, allow an increase in the length of sleeping berths.
Two of the ten cars will be adapted to transport passengers using wheelchairs.
More than 100 Ukrainian enterprises are planned to be involved in production, supplying components and equipment. The company began the transition to new-generation cars last year with an order for the first batch of five units.
Since 2021, within the framework of the state financing program, Ukrzaliznytsia has contracted a total of 368 passenger cars. The company explains the need to renew the fleet due to the aging of the rolling stock, losses caused by Russian shelling, and a shortage of seats on trains.
