"Ukrtelecom" is preparing the launch of a new mobile operator: first details
"Ukrtelecom" is preparing to launch a mobile service under the U Mobile brand, which is expected to operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). For private clients, tariffs with 15 or 60 GB of data are planned, and mobile communication is intended to be combined with the company's optical home internet.
The preparation of the new service was reported by the technical community of the telecommunications market of Ukraine MZU. "Ukrtelecom" itself has not publicly announced the launch of U Mobile at this time, so the tariff parameters mentioned remain preliminary.
According to MZU, the company plans to use the FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) model: services on the GPON optical network will be combined with mobile communication in joint packages for private subscribers. In fact, customers will be offered home internet and a SIM card within one tariff product.
What tariffs U Mobile is preparing
Preliminarily, the mobile lineup will be called "Simka". The basic packages provide two options for mobile data volume – 15 GB or 60 GB. They will also include 500 minutes for calls within Ukraine and 15 SMS.
One of the special features will be the billing period. U Mobile plans to charge the subscription fee per calendar month – from the first to the last day, rather than every four weeks.
For new customers, a "Easy Start" period is also provided: after paying for the tariff, services can be used until the first day of the next month without additional charge.
When subscriber identification or number porting to U Mobile with number retention via MNP, a 15% discount is announced. Another 5% discount is planned to be provided via promo codes. The final tariff prices have not yet been announced.
U Mobile will not have its own radio network
An MVNO differs from a classic mobile operator in that it does not build a separate network of base stations and does not use its own radio frequency resource, but operates on the infrastructure of another operator. Which mobile network U Mobile will use is currently not reported.
The preparation of the new mobile brand is also confirmed by "Ukrtelecom" trademark applications. The registry includes, in particular, applications for U Mobile, UT Mobile and several variants of the name "Simka", which are currently under consideration.
The exact launch date of U Mobile, tariff prices, coverage area, and the operator whose network the service will use have not been announced yet.
