KABs strike Kherson TEC again: Naftogaz reports critical damage

On the night of August 27, Russian forces again attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant of Naftogaz Group. This time, four guided aerial bombs struck the plant's territory at once. The attack completely destroyed and disabled all heat-generating and energy-generating equipment that remained at the facility.

The company described the damage to the power plant as critical. The plant is one of the key heat supply facilities in Kherson and provides heating to a significant portion of the city's residential buildings.

"The Russians struck a purely civilian facility that provides heating to a significant portion of Kherson's residential buildings. This attack makes no military sense. Its sole purpose is the terror of the civilian population and an attempt to deprive tens of thousands of Kherson residents of a heat source on the eve of the heating season," — said acting Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz Sergiy Fedorenko.

Power plant attacked for second day in a row

This is already the second large-scale attack on the Kherson Power Plant in two days. The day before, on August 26, Russian forces struck the plant with a guided aerial bomb.

At that time, Naftogaz reported serious damage to the city's main heat source. Immediately after the strike, the full extent of the damage could not be determined due to the security situation.

The company also noted that during 2026, the Kherson Power Plant had already been targeted by Russian attacks dozens of times. However, the strike on August 26 caused particularly extensive damage.

After the new attack on the night of August 27, the situation sharply deteriorated: four KABs destroyed the equipment that remained at the plant and could be used for the production of thermal and electric energy.

Kherson's heat supply under threat

The Kherson Power Plant is critically important for the city's heating season. Naftogaz emphasizes that its main purpose is to provide heat to the civilian population.

After the repeated strike, the company did not report whether it is possible to restore the plant's generating capacity before the start of the heating season and how long the restoration work might take.
