Zelensky replaced the temporary head of the State Border Guard Service

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Vadym Chenchyk, who previously held the position of deputy head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as the acting head of the State Border Guard Service.

The corresponding decree No. 837/2026 was signed by Zelensky on August 31.

The document stipulates that Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service Vadym Chenchyk will temporarily perform the duties of the head of the agency.

By another decree No. 836/2026, the President on the same day released Valeriy Vavryniuk from the temporary performance of the duties of the head of the State Border Guard Service.

Vavryniuk had headed the service as acting head since January 4, 2026. At that time, Zelensky dismissed Serhiy Deineko from the post of head of the State Border Guard Service and temporarily assigned leadership of the agency to Vavryniuk.

What is known about Vadym Chenchyk

Chenchyk has been working as deputy head of the State Border Guard Service since 2019. In this position, he was part of the top leadership of the agency and was responsible for specific areas of its activities.

Chenchyk was also awarded the state medal "For Military Service to Ukraine".

At the same time, the presidential decree does not constitute the appointment of Chenchyk as a full-fledged head of the State Border Guard Service - it concerns precisely the temporary performance of the duties of the head of the service.
