A fire broke out at a plant in Poland that produces components for Ukrainian drones
On the night of August 31, a fire broke out at the production site of the Polish defense company WB Electronics in Skarżysko-Kamienna. The plant manufactures components for unmanned systems, including those used by Ukraine. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and Polish law enforcement officials are not ruling out the possibility of arson.
The fire was reported to the services shortly after midnight. The fire started in the production area of the plant, where the assembly section is located. At the time of the fire, the plant was not in operation, so no one was injured.
According to Rzeczpospolita, five fire crews were dispatched to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished, after which firefighters ventilated the premises and inspected the building with thermal imaging cameras.
WB Group described the fire as minor and stated that internal safety systems and procedures functioned properly. The plant plans to resume operations after completing the necessary formalities.
The plant produces components for unmanned systems
WB Electronics is part of the Polish defense company WB Group. The plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna specializes in the production of components for unmanned vehicles.
Rzeczpospolita notes that the plant produces pumps for unmanned aerial vehicles and ground unmanned vehicles, among other things. According to Onet, citing TVP Info, the plant also produces composite structures and control systems for drones.
Onet also reports that the components produced at this plant are used by Ukraine.
Special services are investigating the possibility of arson
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined. Polish police are investigating all possible scenarios and are not ruling out that a third party may have been involved in starting the fire.
Due to the defense profile of the plant, Polish special services have joined the investigation. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the Minister-Coordinator of Special Services, said that the circumstances of the incident are being analyzed with particular care given the possibility of sabotage.
According to him, law enforcement agencies are collecting and examining evidence to determine whether the fire was arson or had another cause. He stressed that the case is being treated as a priority.
At the same time, Polish services have not yet confirmed that the fire was an act of sabotage. A final conclusion is to be made after the inspection of the scene is completed and the collected materials are analyzed.
