Xi Jinping announced the strengthening of China's role in resolving the war in Ukraine

China is ready to enhance interaction with other countries to promote a political settlement of the war in Ukraine, as well as the situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan. This was stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State.

According to the Chinese leader, Beijing intends to more actively coordinate its actions with all interested parties regarding the most acute international and regional crises.

Among such issues, Xi Jinping separately named Ukraine, the Middle East and Afghanistan. China, according to him, is ready to strengthen communication and coordination, work both with the consequences of conflicts and their root causes, and promote political settlement.

No new concrete peace initiative

At the same time, in his speech Xi Jinping did not announce a new peace plan for Ukraine and did not name specific negotiation mechanisms or timelines. It is primarily about Beijing's stated readiness to more actively use diplomatic channels and coordinate positions with other parties.

The Chinese leader's wording indicates Beijing's intention to maintain the role of a participant in diplomatic processes around Russia's war against Ukraine, without limiting itself only to the Ukrainian direction.

In recent years, China has repeatedly stated that it stands for a political settlement of the war and negotiations. Beijing promotes its own vision of settlement, emphasizing the need to take into account the security interests of all sides and repeatedly calling for a cessation of hostilities.

Xi Jinping's new statement came in the broader context of Chinese foreign policy: Beijing seeks to more actively position itself as a diplomatic mediator not only in Ukraine, but also in conflicts in the Middle East and Asia.
