Hryvnia weakens due to active NBU intervention
The situation on the interbank currency market changed on Wednesday, September 2: dollar quotes went up and by the time of writing had risen from 44.51 to 44.65 UAH on the 'bid' side.
The National Bank increased the pace of its currency intervention: by the time of writing, transactions worth 251 million dollars had been recorded on Bloomberg. Nevertheless, even this did not stop the growth. It seems that the so-called 'calendar factor' began to work: the beginning of autumn in Ukraine has always been accompanied by an increase in demand for foreign currency and, accordingly, a rise in quotes.
The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine is getting more expensive on Wednesday in sync with the dollar and has already risen from 51.51 to 51.68 UAH on the 'bid' side. On the international currency market, the euro has been falling for the second day in a row due to rising tensions in the Middle East and the resumption of mutual strikes between the USA and Iran.
In the capital, cash dollar prices also went up. If yesterday wholesale exchange points in Kyiv sold the dollar at 44.72-44.73 UAH, today at lunchtime – at 44.78-44.80 UAH. In Vinnytsia, the dollar is sold at 44.77 UAH, in Kharkiv and Mykolaiv – at 44.78 UAH, in Khmelnytskyi and Dnipro – at 44.80 UAH.
By 1:00 PM, Ukrainian banks are selling the dollar at prices from 44.70 UAH in MTB and Oxi Bank to 45.10 UAH in Zaporizhzhia's Metbank. As for the euro, at the moment it can be purchased cheapest at 51.80 UAH in Raiffeisen Bank and Oxi Bank.
World oil prices continue to rise amid escalating tensions and a new exchange of strikes between the USA and Iran. The price of the popular Brent grade by the time of writing had risen to $96.97 per barrel and is currently trading in the range of $94.75-94.99 per barrel.
On crypto exchanges, prices for major cryptocurrencies have gone down again against the backdrop of a strengthening dollar. Thus, Bitcoin (BTC) on the popular Binance exchange dropped to $76,484 per coin on Wednesday morning, and Ethereum (ETH) – to $2,366.90 per coin. At present, Bitcoin is being sold at $76,580-76,600 per coin, and Ethereum – at $2,370-2,376 per coin.
