The authorities are discussing possible procedural actions of NABU and SAP regarding Arakhamia - sources
Over the past month, the parliament, government, Presidential Office and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly discussed the possibility of procedural actions by anti-corruption bodies against the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia. Meanwhile, there is currently no confirmed information about the preparation of a suspicion against him.
This is reported by "Ukrainska Pravda" citing numerous interlocutors in political and law enforcement circles.
According to the journalists, over the past month in the corridors of the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Presidential Office and law enforcement agencies, they "dozens of times" heard information in various versions that Arakhamia allegedly could be among the suspects in cases of anti-corruption bodies.
At the same time, UP does not claim that NABU or SAP have already decided to notify Arakhamia of suspicion or take specific procedural actions against him.
According to the publication, the head of the presidential faction himself, against the backdrop of these talks, is trying to maintain communication with people close to anti-corruption bodies and enlist the support of those who could influence the situation.
As UP writes, this concerns, if not the possibility of convincing NABU and SAP to refrain from procedural actions, then at least their postponement. The argument is allegedly the risk of destabilizing the Verkhovna Rada in the autumn, when the government needs to pass a number of important laws through parliament.
Earlier, as part of the investigation into the so-called "envelope" payments to people's deputies, anti-corruption bodies conducted investigative actions against Arakhamia's assistant. At the same time, there was no public data on establishing the involvement of the faction leader himself in possible offenses.
The situation around Arakhamia matters not only because of possible law enforcement consequences. UP calls him a virtually irreplaceable figure in the current parliamentary structure due to his ability to negotiate situational majorities among different deputy groups.
According to the publication's assessment, Arakhamia remains one of the few representatives of the presidential team capable of simultaneously negotiating with different parts of "Servant of the People", majoritarian deputies, deputy groups and former representatives of the Opposition Platform – For Life.
Therefore, his possible withdrawal from the parliamentary process, at least for some time, could, in UP's opinion, cause serious disorganization of the Verkhovna Rada's work. The publication sees no other person with similar communication capabilities and influence on different groups of deputies in the current parliamentary structure.
One of the few politicians who could theoretically try to stabilize the parliamentary process in case of problems with Arakhamia, UP names the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
However, this is the publication's assessment, not information about the preparation of a specific personnel scenario. UP notes that Stefanchuk has in recent years largely distanced himself from informal parliamentary bargaining and situational political agreements that formed the basis of Arakhamia's influence.
