In Munich, arsonists threw incendiary devices at a construction site in front of the headquarters of technology company Rohde & Schwarz, which works in the defense sector, during the night. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office considers the incident a possible attempted attack on a defense industry enterprise and is checking for political motive.

The incident occurred around midnight on September 3 in the Munich district of Berg am Laim. According to police, a witness saw incendiary devices being thrown from a car onto the construction site and then informed law enforcement.

One of the devices ignited near construction containers and caused a small fire. Police arriving at the scene quickly extinguished the flames. No significant material damage was reported; there were no injuries.

Another unexploded incendiary device was also found at the scene. Specialists from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office defused it, and the surrounding area was cordoned off during the operation.

Shortly after the incident, police arrested two suspects at a nearby gas station: a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man. According to BR24, both are Bulgarian citizens.

Authorities are currently determining whether the detained individuals are directly connected to the attack. No information about the motive or possible masterminds has been released yet.

The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation. Its representative stated that investigators are treating the incident as a possible attempted attack on a defense sector company and are examining political motives.

LKA officials did not name the enterprise that might have been the target. According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, the event took place at a construction site directly in front of the Rohde & Schwarz headquarters.

A company spokesperson confirmed that police and firefighters had been on site but stressed that the company premises were not directly affected. Rohde & Schwarz has so far refrained from further comment.

Rohde & Schwarz is a major German technology group and produces secure communications systems, signals intelligence systems, electronic warfare systems, and anti-drone systems for military and government customers.

The company has over 15,000 employees worldwide. In the 2024/2025 fiscal year, its revenue grew by 7.8% to 3.16 billion euros, exceeding the 3-billion-euro mark for the first time.

This is not the first incident near Rohde & Schwarz. In 2021, unknown persons set fire to a power cable in the area of the enterprise. At that time, a message had circulated online in which the authors called the event an attack on a defense contractor. The cable damage left about 20,000 households in eastern Munich without power, but according to the company, its premises were unaffected. That attack has still not been solved.

German law enforcement authorities have not reported any established link between the current incident and Russia or any foreign intelligence service.
