Drones have again reached the region with one of Russia's largest refineries, smoke rose over the industrial zone (Updated)
In Perm Krai of the Russian Federation, as a result of a drone attack, one person died and four others were injured after a drone hit a multi-apartment building. After the attack, smoke rose over Zakamsk in Perm — in this area are located the Perm Gunpowder Plant and the defense enterprise "Mashinostroitel". At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the use of Ukrainian long-range weapons on oil refineries in the Perm region and Tatarstan, without specifying the date of these strikes.
Drones flew to Perm
In Perm Krai, a drone danger regime was announced in the morning. The regional ministry of territorial security later confirmed that air defense forces are repelling a UAV attack. Astra also published photos and videos of drones over Perm received from local residents.
Due to the threat, temporary restrictions on receiving and dispatching aircraft were introduced at Bolshoye Savino Airport. No information about damage to industrial facilities or casualties was reported at the time of publication.
In Perm is located the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery with a design primary processing capacity of about 13.1 million tons of oil per year. This is one of the largest oil refining capacities of the Lukoil group.
The enterprise was already attacked on August 21. Then, according to the results of Astra's OSINT analysis, the plant may have damaged the primary atmospheric-vacuum oil distillation unit. The Russian side did not provide official confirmation of the scale of damage.
Smoke rose over Perm's industrial zone
After the morning drone attack over Zakamsk in Perm, a column of smoke was recorded. Astra, based on OSINT analysis, determined that it rose in the area where several enterprises of the Russian defense-industrial complex are located.
In particular, the Perm Gunpowder Plant operates there, producing charges for the "Grad" and "Smerch" multiple launch rocket systems, as well as for air defense systems.
In the same area is located the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Mashinostroitel" — a strategic defense enterprise that is part of the "Tactical Missiles Corporation". It produces, in particular, units and components of aircraft engines and solid-propellant rocket engines.
At the same time, there is currently no confirmation that the smoke was caused by a direct hit on any of these enterprises.
Russian authorities also clarified the consequences of the attack. One of the drones hit a multi-apartment building. According to the governor of Perm Krai, one person died and four others were injured.
Later, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian military used long-range means on oil refineries in the Perm region and Tatarstan. He also reported hitting a refinery in the Ryazan region, storage and launch sites of attack drones in the Kursk region, and targets in the Black Sea.
At the same time, Zelenskyy did not specify exactly when the strikes on enterprises in the Perm region and Tatarstan were carried out. Therefore, it is currently impossible to reliably assert that his statement refers specifically to the attack on September 7, and not also to operations conducted in previous days.
In Sochi, oil depot caught fire again
A separate incident occurred in Sochi. According to Astra, on the night of September 7, the Adler oil depot "Rosneft-Kubannefteprodukt" likely caught fire again. The publication established the probable location of the fire from eyewitness footage.
At the same time, there were no reports of a new drone attack before the ignition, and no air alarm was announced in the city. Russian authorities did not officially confirm the repeated fire at the facility, so the causes of the ignition remain unknown.
This oil depot was already attacked on the night of September 4. Then, in the Sochi area, the oil depot "Lukoil-Yugnefteprodukt" on the federal territory of Sirius also burned. Astra geolocated both objects from eyewitness footage.
After that attack, one of the two aircraft refueling operators at Sochi airport — the Rosneft structure — temporarily ceased operations. Refueling of aircraft was carried out for some time only by the Lukoil operator, as evidenced by an international aviation notice for pilots.
In Chuvashia, a mobile communication tower was damaged
Another attack on the night of Monday was confirmed by the authorities of Chuvashia. The head of the republic, Oleg Nikolaev, stated the destruction of two drones.
According to preliminary data, a mobile communication tower was damaged as a result of the attack. There are no dead or injured; operational services worked at the site.
Thus, the morning attack on September 7 covered several regions of the Russian Federation remote from the Ukrainian border. At the same time, regarding Perm, the Russian authorities have so far confirmed only the operation of air defense, without reports of hitting the refinery or other industrial enterprises.
