A tobacco factory caught fire in Pryluky after a Russian attack
In Pryluky, Chernihiv region, on September 7, a fire broke out at a tobacco factory belonging to the international group British American Tobacco as a result of a Russian attack. According to preliminary data, the plant's employees were not injured, as they were in a shelter at the time of the strike.
The fire was reported by Suspilne from the scene.
According to plant employees, the fire broke out on the roof of the cigarette shop. Firefighters are working at the scene.
Preliminarily, there are no casualties as a result of the strike. One woman received medical assistance due to an acute stress reaction.
Local publication "Chas Chernihivskyi" reports that the enterprise was attacked with Russian barrage munitions of the "Banderol" type. At the same time, in Suspilne's report, the specific type of weapon is not specified.
One of Pryluky's largest enterprises
Pryluky tobacco factory operates as part of British American Tobacco. BAT Ukraine was established in 1993 precisely on the basis of this enterprise and is one of the largest investors and employers in Pryluky and Chernihiv region. According to current company data, about 800 people work in BAT Ukraine, more than 400 of them in Pryluky. Products of the Ukrainian division are exported to EU countries, the Middle East and Central Asia.
BAT's portfolio in Ukraine includes, in particular, brands Dunhill, Kent, Rothmans, Vogue, Lucky Strike and Capri. The Pryluky factory historically also produced Pall Mall and the company's national brands.
The enterprise is the largest in the Pryluky community by revenue. According to the results of 2025, PJSC "V.A.T.-Pryluky" received about 5.04 billion UAH of income.
BAT for many years invested in modernizing production in Pryluky. In particular, the factory expanded its tobacco and cigarette shops to increase export supplies, and the company positioned the enterprise as one of its production and export hubs.
The factory had already halted due to the war
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, production in Pryluky was suspended due to the security situation. BAT resumed the factory's operations on April 25, 2022 after assessing risks and subsequently worked taking into account martial law restrictions.
How serious the damage after the attack on September 7 is and whether it will affect the further operation of the enterprise, was not reported at the time of publication.
