Unemployment in Poland rose more than expected, while the number of vacancies decreased
The registered unemployment rate in Poland in August rose to 5.9% from 5.8% a month earlier. Economists expected the indicator to remain unchanged. At the same time, the number of registered unemployed exceeded 911 thousand people, and employers offered fewer new vacancies.

As of the end of August, 911 thousand unemployed were registered with Polish employment services. During the month, their number increased by 4.6 thousand, and compared with August 2025 — by 54.7 thousand people.
Economists surveyed by PAP Biznes forecast that the unemployment rate in August would remain at the July level of 5.8%. Thus, the actual indicator was 0.1 percentage point higher than the consensus forecast.
Employers offered fewer vacancies
At the same time, the situation with job offers deteriorated. In August, employers submitted 34.3 thousand vacancies and places of professional activation to the employment services.
This is 4.5 thousand, or 11.7%, less than in July. In annual terms, the number of such offers decreased by 5 thousand, or 12.7%.
Unemployment varies significantly by region. The lowest rate at the end of August was preliminarily recorded in the Greater Poland Voivodeship — 3.8%, while the highest was in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship — 9.3%.
Back in June, about 901.5 thousand unemployed were registered in Poland, and the unemployment rate was 5.8%. However, according to Eurostat methodology, the Polish labour market remains one of the strongest in the EU: in May, the harmonised unemployment rate was 3.1% against 5.9% on average across the European Union.
