Power outages occurred in Kyiv and five regions after Russian attacks
As a result of Russian attacks on civilian energy infrastructure on the morning of September 8, new power outages occurred in Sumy, Donetsk, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv regions, as well as in Kyiv. Power engineers have already begun emergency repair work where the security situation allows.
The state of the energy system was reported by NPC "Ukrenergo".
The company did not specify the number of consumers and settlements left without power in each region. However, they noted that the new outages were a direct consequence of Russian strikes on civilian energy infrastructure facilities.
The immediate task of repair crews is to restore electricity to all customers as soon as possible. At the same time, the pace of restoration depends on the security situation and the ability of power engineers to access damaged equipment.
Thus, after the night attack, power supply problems were recorded simultaneously in at least six regions of the country, including the capital.
ZNPP reconnected to external grid
Separately, "Ukrenergo" reported that on the evening of September 7, the company's repair crews restored power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
ZNPP had been completely disconnected from the external power grid since August 20. All this time, the plant was forced to receive power from reserve diesel generators.
This became the 27th complete blackout of the Zaporizhzhia NPP since the beginning of the Russian occupation of the plant and one of the longest such cases.
Electricity consumption decreased
Despite new damage to the energy infrastructure, the overall level of electricity consumption in the country decreased in the morning.
As of 09:30 on September 8, it was 5.6% lower than at the same time the previous day. "Ukrenergo" attributed this to clear weather across almost all of Ukraine and the high efficiency of household solar power plants. Because of this, some consumers draw less electricity from the general grid.
The daily maximum load on September 7 was recorded in the evening and remained approximately at the level of the maximum of the previous working day - Friday, September 4.
"Ukrenergo" called for shifting the use of powerful electrical appliances to the period from 11:00 to 15:00, when industrial solar power plants operate most effectively. Instead, during the evening period from 18:00 to 21:00, use of powerful appliances is recommended to be limited.
The company stressed that the situation in the energy system may change during the day, so consumers should follow notifications from their distribution system operators.
