One of Britain's biggest taxpayers to move residency to Greece

British billionaire and founder of hedge fund Rokos Capital Management Chris Rokos is preparing to transfer his tax residency from Great Britain to Greece. One of the country's biggest individual taxpayers also plans to open an office in Athens.

The financier's plans were reported by Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the situation. A representative of Rokos Capital, which manages assets of approximately $22 billion, declined to comment.

Rokos ranks third in the list of the largest taxpayers in Great Britain according to the Sunday Times. His tax payments for 2025 were estimated at £330 million. Bloomberg estimates the financier's fortune at approximately $4 billion. 

Greece offers a preferential regime for wealthy investors

Greece has been actively attracting wealthy foreigners in recent years through a special tax regime. It allows paying a fixed tax of €100 thousand per year on income earned outside the country for 15 years.

To participate in the program, the investor must invest at least €500 thousand in Greek real estate, business, or securities within three years after obtaining the corresponding status.

APAs part of the move, Rokos also plans to open an office of Rokos Capital Management in Athens. London in this process remains one of the key centers of the fund's operations.

Wealthy financiers are leaving Britain

Rokos' move comes amid broader discussion about the outflow of large capital after changes in British tax policy. The authorities abolished the longstanding non-dom regime, which allowed wealthy residents to not pay British tax on part of overseas income and capital gains.

Under the new rules, after a transition period, foreign income and profits are subject to British taxation, and for long-term residents, inheritance tax rules have also changed. Simultaneously, taxation of certain private equity income and capital gains has been tightened. 

In recent years, other prominent entrepreneurs and financiers have also announced changes to their residency, including Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris and former Goldman Sachs top executive Richard Gnodde. At the same time, official data does not yet indicate a mass exodus of wealthy residents: the latest available statistics showed only a moderate decrease in their numbers.

Rokos remains one of the most prominent British financiers

Chris Rokos founded Rokos Capital Management in 2015 after a career at Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, and co-founding the hedge fund Brevan Howard. Currently, RCM is one of the largest global macro hedge funds and manages approximately $22 billion. For the full-year 2025, the fund earned about 21%. 

In early 2026, Rokos also donated £190 million to the University of Cambridge to create a new school of public administration. This became the largest single donation to a British university in modern history.
