Ukraine's construction market shrinks for second consecutive year, decline accelerated in summer
The volume of construction in Ukraine in January-July 2026 decreased by 11.2% compared to the same period last year. In July, the decline accelerated significantly - the volume of construction products was 25.9% lower than a year earlier.
This is evidenced by the data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
For seven months of 2026, the volume of produced construction products amounted to UAH 130.1 billion. Reduction was recorded in all major segments of the industry.
The construction of engineering structures decreased the most - by 14.4%, to UAH 68 billion. This segment accounts for more than half of the total volume of construction works in Ukraine.
The volume of construction of non-residential buildings decreased by 9.1%, to UAH 42.9 billion. Residential construction proved to be more resilient: over seven months it decreased by 4.1%, to UAH 19.2 billion.
Decline accelerated in July
The dynamics in July were significantly worse. Compared to July 2025, the total volume of construction works decreased by 25.9%.
The deepest decline was recorded in the construction of engineering structures - by 36% year-on-year. Construction of non-residential buildings decreased by 15.9%. At the same time, the residential segment showed a slight increase - by 0.5%.
However, compared to June, the situation was opposite: in July, the volume of construction increased by 17.5%. The construction of engineering structures increased by 19.9%, non-residential buildings - by 19.1%, housing - by 4%.
In the structure of construction works performed in July, new construction accounted for 45.6%. Another 30.1% were repairs, and 24.3% - reconstruction and other works.
Thus, the monthly revival of construction activity has not yet changed the general trend: compared to last year, work volumes remain substantially lower, and the greatest pressure on the overall indicator is created by the segment of engineering structures.
