Ukraine struck oil infrastructure at strategic Russian port on Caspian
The Special Operations Forces of Ukraine confirmed a hit on the oil infrastructure of the Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port in Dagestan. The attack was carried out in the night of September 10. President Volodymyr Zelensky also announced the damage to the Sea Commercial Port in Dagestan.

According to the SSO, Ukrainian forces struck precisely targeted facilities of the oil infrastructure of the Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port on the Caspian Sea coast.
The Special Operations Forces noted that the port's oil terminal can serve tankers with a deadweight up to 10,000 tons. There is also an oil depot directly adjacent to the port territory.
The Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port is of strategic importance for Russian logistics. It is the only ice-free deep-water port of Russia in the Caspian Sea which can operate year-round.
Through it, Russia transports various types of cargo. The port is also an important link in the international transport corridor "North-South" which provides connectivity between Russia and Iran, India and other countries of South Asia.
The SSO emphasized that the destruction of the oil component of this transport hub should affect Russia's ability to use the Caspian Sea for the transportation and transshipment of energy resources.

Volodymyr Zelensky separately confirmed the damage to the Sea Commercial Port in Dagestan. According to him, during the day, Ukrainian soldiers attacked eight facilities of Russian infrastructure that work for the war against Ukraine.
Previously, media reported an attack on Makhachkala
In the night of September 10, residents of Makhachkala reported a series of explosions in the area of the sea port. Astra, after analyzing photos and videos, assumed that one of the main targets of the attack could have been the Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port.
Later, the Russian authorities confirmed a fire at the port infrastructure. At the same time, they claimed that the drones were allegedly destroyed and the fires broke out due to falling fragments.
During the attack, a fire also broke out near the Avar Theatre in Makhachkala. Damage to the building's roof was reported. According to the official data of the Russian side, there were no casualties.
The Makhachkala port operates with liquid and dry cargoes and is one of the key transport hubs of Russia in the Caspian Sea. According to the results of the first eight months of 2026, more than 2.9 million tons of grain were transshipped through the port, and the volume of transshipment of liquid cargo amounted to about 1.83 million tons.
Thus, the SSO's new statement officially clarifies for the first time the target of the night operation: Ukrainian forces attacked not just the territory of the port, but specifically its oil infrastructure.
