SBU claims to have thwarted FSB assassination attempt on public figure: who it was about revealed

The Security Service of Ukraine claimed to have foiled an assassination attempt allegedly prepared by Russia's FSB against a well-known Ukrainian public figure. The SBU did not name the potential victim, but Gennadiy Druzenko, co-founder and head of the Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital, said it was about him.

According to the SBU, for the murder the Russian special service recruited a 19-year-old resident of Mykolaiv. He came to Kyiv and began preparing to carry out the task.

The special service claims the suspect tracked the public figure's movement routes and studied his daily routine. Later he took a pistol from a stash, which he was supposed to use during the attack.

According to the SBU's version, the murder was planned to be carried out during a man's morning walk with his dog in the forest. Counterintelligence officers detained the suspect during a special operation before he could implement the plan.

Druzenko spoke about the preparation of the assassination attempt

Gennadiy Druzenko, after the SBU's report, publicly stated that he was the target of the planned murder.

According to him, the potential perpetrator specially came to Kyiv from another city, studied his daily routine, movement routes, and had photos of the future victim.

Druzenko claims that he was planned to be shot with a silenced pistol during a morning walk with his dog.

However, the operation itself did not take place now. According to Druzenko, the suspect was detained about a month and a half ago, but details of the operation have not been publicly disclosed until now.

He also said that the detention took place on the same day as the foiled assassination attempt on Ihor Obolensky, commander of the "Khartiia" corps. Druzenko stated that on that day Russian special services allegedly prepared attacks against several people at once.

At the same time, in the SBU's report on the current case, a direct link between the preparation of the assassination attempt on Druzenko and the assassination attempt on Obolensky is not established. The coincidence in time was reported by Druzenko himself.

Who is Gennadiy Druzenko

Gennadiy Druzenko is a lawyer, public figure, co-founder and head of the Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital. The PFVMH has been working in Ukraine since 2014 and provides medical assistance, including in areas close to hostilities.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, the organization significantly expanded its work and involved volunteer medics to help military and civilians.
