Series of Russian strikes on gas stations recorded in Kyiv
Russia is striking gas stations in Kyiv for the second consecutive day. On the morning of September 11, hits were recorded on two gas stations at once - in the Dniprovskyi and Obolonskyi districts. The day before, a Russian jet drone attacked the UKRNAFTA fueling complex in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the new hits.
According to his preliminary information, one hit occurred on a gas station in the Dniprovskyi district, another - on a gas station in the Obolonskyi district.
Later, a repeated hit on a gas station was recorded in the Obolonskyi district.
Detailed data on the extent of damage and possible casualties at these two facilities are currently being clarified. The city authorities did not name the type of drones that hit the gas stations on September 11 at the time of the report.
A day earlier, Russia attacked UKRNAFTA gas station
The new hits occurred the day after the attack on the UKRNAFTA fueling complex in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv near the Respublika Park shopping center.
UKRNAFTA itself reported that on September 10, Russian troops struck its fueling complex with a jet drone. Customers and staff left the gas station territory in advance after the air raid alert was announced, so there were no casualties among them.
At the same time, the city authorities reported injured people near the strike site. According to updated data from Vitali Klitschko, four people were injured, three of them were hospitalized.
As a result of the attack, a car caught fire on the gas station territory, and buildings and equipment of the complex were damaged. Nearby infrastructure was also affected.
Gas station strikes were previously concentrated mainly closer to the front
Russian attacks on fueling infrastructure were recorded before, but a significant part of them occurred in frontline and border regions.
In particular, on September 8, Russian drones attacked three gas stations in Kharkiv in one day. As a result of one of the strikes, a fuel dispenser and a car caught fire, and two people were injured.
On August 24, a drone also hit a gas station in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv. Then the station operator and a visitor were injured, and cars and equipment were damaged.
Attacks also occurred on UKRNAFTA facilities in other regions. The company reported that during September 5-6 alone, Russian drones attacked four of its facilities - in the Kyiv region, Zaporizhzhia, and the Dnipropetrovsk region. In July, two fueling complexes of the network were also hit in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
UKRNAFTA already called such strikes systematic attacks on civilian infrastructure that provides fuel to the population and businesses.
At least three gas stations hit in the capital within two days
Thus, on September 10-11 alone, at least three cases of Russian drones hitting gas stations were recorded in Kyiv.
This series may indicate an expansion of the geography of attacks on fuel infrastructure and the transfer of such strikes directly to the capital. At the same time, Ukrainian authorities have not officially stated that Russia has launched a separate systematic campaign specifically against Kyiv gas stations.
A separate feature of the previous strike was the use of a jet drone. Russia has recently been more actively using high-speed jet drones to attack Ukrainian cities, which reduces the time for their detection and interception. What exactly the devices that attacked two gas stations on September 11 are still unknown.
