Kremlin backed Trump's call to Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian refineries
The Kremlin welcomed the call by US President Donald Trump to Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian enterprises related to diesel fuel production. However, Moscow did not declare readiness to in response abandon attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering journalists' questions.
He was asked whether Russia is ready to refrain from strikes on energy facilities of Ukraine, if Kyiv fulfills Trump's request and stops attacks on Russian enterprises producing diesel.
"One can only welcome any call to the Kyiv regime (as the Russian Federation calls Ukrainian authorities, - ed.) to stop strikes on peaceful economic infrastructure", - Peskov replied.
He did not state about Russia's readiness to introduce an analogous restriction.
A day earlier, Trump called on President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to stop strikes on Russian infrastructure related to diesel fuel production. The US President claimed that Ukrainian attacks contribute to diesel shortage on the global market.
Trump at the same time did not call on Ukraine to completely stop strikes on targets in Russia. According to him, Kyiv may choose other objects, but should not attack diesel fuel production. The American president also stated that he had already discussed this issue with Zelenskyi.
Ukraine in recent months has intensified long-range strikes on Russian refineries and other fuel infrastructure. Kyiv explains such operations by the need to reduce fuel supplies to the Russian army and income of the energy sector of the Russian Federation, which are used to finance the war.
Along with supporting Trump's call, Peskov stated that Russian military "fulfill their tasks across the entire territory of Ukraine" and will continue to do so.
Thus, in particular, he answered a question about the Russian strike on a passenger train not far from the border of Ukraine with Poland. Shortly before the attack, a diplomatic train with representatives of European countries passed through this section. The Kremlin did not specify whether exactly this train was the target of the strike.
Peskov also stated that Russia continues to improve its positions at the front, and the leaders of China and India, Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi, according to him, are ready to contribute to finding ways to end the war.
