Russian attack damaged railway infrastructure, trains changed routes and are delayed

As a result of the Russian attack on September 17, railway infrastructure in Kyiv and Berestyn, Kharkiv region, was damaged. Ukrzaliznytsia rerouted some passenger trains via reserve routes, and delays of some services exceeded seven to eight hours.

In Berestyn, the building of the railway station was damaged. During the attack, passengers and employees were in the shelter, so there were no casualties. Ukrzaliznytsia is inspecting the infrastructure.

Train traffic to Berestyn was not canceled - they continue to operate.

In Kyiv, the infrastructure of the Mykilska Slobidka station of the Kyiv City Express ring was damaged by the attack. As a result, Kyiv City Express is temporarily running a limited ring, bypassing the section from Darnytsia to Pochaina. Ukrzaliznytsia expects that restoring the damaged infrastructure will take about a day.

Also, the windows and doors of one of the electric trains, depot facilities, and several other railway infrastructure objects were damaged.

The attack also affected long-distance train movement. Some services, including Odesa - Kharkiv and Dnipro - Odesa, are running via reserve routes. Ukrzaliznytsia warned that for some trains such a detour could increase travel time by more than six hours.

According to the company's operational data as of the morning of September 17, train No. 285/286 Lviv - Dnipro was delayed the most - by more than eight hours. Train No. 7/8 Odesa - Kharkiv was about seven hours behind schedule, and No. 31/32 Zaporizhzhia - Przemyśl and No. 3/4 Dnipro - Uzhhorod were 6 hours 40 minutes late.

Also, trains Kropyvnytskyi - Kyiv and Kremenchuk - Kyiv were delayed by almost six hours, and Cherkasy - Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro - Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih - Odesa by more than five hours. Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that the estimated delay time may change during travel.
