One of Russia's largest refineries halts processing after drone attack

The Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl has halted crude oil processing after the Ukrainian attack on September 17. The strike damaged equipment at the facility.

Reuters reported the halt of processing, citing four industry sources. It concerns precisely the cessation of crude oil processing at the plant following damage from the drone attack.

The day before, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed striking Slavneft-YANOS. According to the Ukrainian military, hits and a fire were recorded at the primary oil processing unit on the refinery's territory.

Such units are the basic part of the refinery's technological process: it is at this stage that crude oil is first separated into fractions, which then go to other units for the production of finished petroleum products.

Slavneft-YANOS is among Russia's largest oil refining enterprises. According to the plant's own data, its installed capacity is about 15 million tons of oil per year. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.

The General Staff also noted that the enterprise is involved in supplying the needs of the Russian armed forces. Russian regional authorities acknowledged damage to the refinery and fires on its territory after the attack.

Thus, the confirmed attack from the day before had a separate production consequence: one of Russia's largest refineries stopped crude oil processing after equipment damage.
