Demand for cars from China in Ukraine collapsed by more than 50%
In August, Ukrainians purchased 1,075 passenger cars imported from China. This is 56% less than in August last year. The segment of new cars decreased the most - immediately by 61%.This is reported by "Ukrautoprom".
Of the total number of cars of Chinese origin, 790 were new and 285 were used. Demand for used cars proved to be more stable: their registrations decreased by 28% year-on-year.
At the same time, compared to July, the situation has slightly improved. In July, Ukrainians purchased 1,026 passenger cars from China, so their number increased by about 5% over the month.
The number of new cars increased from 767 to 790, or approximately 3%, while used cars from 259 to 285, almost 10%.
Despite this, the annual market decline became deeper. In July, the number of passenger cars from China purchased in Ukraine was 50% less than a year earlier, while in August the gap widened to 56%. In the segment of new cars, the decline deepened from 55% to 61%.
Electric vehicles again occupy a larger part of the market
Electric vehicles remain the basis of supplies from China. In August, they accounted for 57% of all purchased Chinese passenger cars. In July, their share was 51%, meaning it grew by 6 percentage points over the month.
At the same time, the Ukrainian electric vehicle market as a whole remains significantly weaker than last year. According to "Ukrautoprom", in August the Ukrainian fleet was replenished with more than 4.2 thousand vehicles with battery power sources (BEV), which is 47% less than in August 2025.
Among them were 4,074 passenger electric vehicles. Only 503 cars were new — 73% less than a year earlier. Another 3,571 electric cars were used, with a decline of 39% in this segment.
Compared to July, the electric vehicle market grew by approximately 7.7% in August.
BYD Sea Lion 06 became the most popular new car from China
The highest demand among new cars of Chinese origin in August was for BYD Sea Lion 06 — Ukrainians purchased 132 such cars.
The top five most popular new models also included:
- BYD Sea Lion 06 — 132 cars;
- ZEEKR 001 — 46;
- ZEEKR 7X — 44;
- MG 4 — 36;
- MG HS — 35.
Compared to July, BYD Sea Lion 06 strengthened its leadership: then 94 vehicles of this model were registered.
Among used passenger cars from China, first place in August was taken by BYD Song L with 29 registrations. It was followed by ZEEKR 7X — 28 cars, BYD Sea Lion 05 — 18, BYD Sea Lion 06 — 16 and ZEEKR 001 — 14.
Thus, the Chinese segment of the Ukrainian car market, after a strong decline year-on-year, showed a slight recovery compared to July. At the same time, the dependence of this segment on electric vehicles has become even higher - they now account for almost six out of ten passenger cars imported from China.
