Biedronka changes the rules for returning deposits on bottles and cans

The Polish chain Biedronka from Monday, September 21, changes the rules for working with vouchers that customers receive after returning bottles and cans within the deposit system. Their validity period will be increased fourfold - from 30 to 120 days.

Thus, after returning containers, customers will have four months from the date of voucher issuance to use the returned deposit for purchases at Biedronka. The company claims that this will be the longest validity period among deposit vouchers with a defined term currently used on the Polish market.

Vouchers are issued, in particular, by machines for accepting containers - recyclomats. Nearly 3900 such devices operate near Biedronka stores. The chain explained the change by the desire to give customers more time to use funds from the returned deposit.

According to Biedronka, by mid-September, customers had returned through its stores already more than 1.5 billion packages participating in the deposit system. Currently, about 10 million bottles and cans pass through the chain's collection points every day.

The record for one day was recorded on August 17 - then customers returned almost 16.5 million packages. On average, one issued voucher corresponds to 24 units of containers, and the average amount of such voucher is about 12 zlotys.

The largest single voucher was issued by the chain in early July at a store in Warlubie. One customer returned 1503 packages at once and received a voucher for 751.50 zlotys.

Containers are returned most actively in the Mazovian, Silesian, and Lesser Poland voivodeships. Among individual stores, the largest volumes of collection are recorded in Jasionka, Warsaw, and Dobczyce.
