Energoatom selects new CEO; company management and nuclear safety will be separated

The Supervisory Board of "Energoatom" has determined the winners of competitions for two key executive positions of the company. The competition for the position of general director (CEO) was won by the current head of "Ukrgasvydobuvannya" Yuriy Tkachuk, while the former head of Rivne NPP Pavlo Pavlyshyn is expected to become the director of nuclear safety (CNO).

However, formally both executives have not yet been appointed. This will take place after the completion of procedures stipulated by legislation, regulatory and corporate procedures.

The competitions lasted from June to September 2026, separately for each position, with the involvement of the international consulting company Korn Ferry. During the selection of candidates, professional experience, managerial competencies, and integrity were assessed, and structured interviews were conducted.

For the position of general director, the search was also conducted outside Ukraine. In total, 78 candidates were considered, five of whom made it to the shortlist. The finalists additionally presented their own strategic vision of the company's development to the Supervisory Board.

The selection of two separate executives is part of the new corporate governance model of "Energoatom". Previously, overall management of the company and ultimate responsibility for nuclear safety were concentrated in one position.

Now the CEO will be responsible for operational activities and development of the company, while the CNO will receive separate professional powers in the field of operation of nuclear power units, nuclear and radiation safety.

According to the Chairperson of the Supervisory Board Rumina Velshi, the director of nuclear safety will have sufficient independence to stop actions that do not meet safety requirements. The company notes that such a model is used by major international operators of nuclear energy.

Yuriy Tkachuk currently heads "Ukrgasvydobuvannya". Previously, he worked at "Ukrnafta", where he was the financial director and for a certain period acted as CEO. His experience covers management of large energy companies, financial management, corporate transformation, and improvement of operational efficiency.

Pavlo Pavlyshyn has over 30 years of experience in nuclear energy. In 2012-2022, he headed Rivne NPP, and in 2019-2020, for four months, he acted as president of "Energoatom".

For Pavlyshyn to assume the position of CNO, it is also necessary to obtain an individual license in the field of nuclear energy use. Previously, he already had such a license, but in 2022 it was revoked. According to the government, this does not prevent undergoing a new licensing procedure.

In parallel, the Supervisory Board together with Korn Ferry and Odgers continues the competitive selection of five more members of the board, after which a full updated composition of the management of "Energoatom" is to be formed.
