Zelenskyy to Meet with Trump: Key Topics of the Talks Revealed

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to hold a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on September 22. Among the main topics of the talks expected are further diplomatic steps to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, energy, and strengthening Ukraine's air defense.

The date of the meeting was reported by Ukrainska Pravda and Suspilne, citing sources in the Presidential Office. Zelenskyy is expected to arrive in the United States on the evening of September 21.

According to Suspilne, Zelenskyy plans to discuss with Trump the results of previous talks with U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as well as further diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.

A separate block of talks is to be energy in the context of possible agreements to end the war.

The presidents also plan to discuss a "winter support" package for Ukraine. This includes, in particular, additional air defense assets. According to Suspilne's source, the parties are also to raise the issue of possible licensed production in Ukraine of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

Zelenskyy announced the agreement on the meeting after a phone call with Trump on September 20. The Presidential Office then officially stated that the talks would take place in New York.

During the phone call, the parties discussed the results of the visit of Witkoff and Kushner to Kyiv. Zelenskyy said that the peace track remains a priority, and among the issues being worked on by the Ukrainian and American teams are possible de-escalation steps, as well as energy and food security and protection of people.

"We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting can change a lot. Diplomatic momentum exists", - Zelenskyy said after the conversation with the American president.
