Zelensky arrived in New York: will meet with Trump today
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, together with First Lady Olena Zelenska and the diplomatic team, arrived in New York to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. About 20 meetings are planned during the visit, including with US President Donald Trump.
According to the released schedule of the American president, the meeting between Trump and Zelensky is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. New York time, or 8:15 p.m. Kyiv time on September 22. It is marked in the schedule as a bilateral meeting between the US President and the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky said that he also plans to hold talks with European leaders, US senators and members of the House of Representatives, heads of international organizations, leading US companies, and think tanks. In total, the Ukrainian delegation is preparing to hold about 20 meetings.
Among the main topics of the visit, the president named strengthening Ukrainian air defense and ensuring sufficient funding for Ukraine. According to him, Kyiv has also prepared specific security proposals and de-escalation decisions, which it plans to discuss with partners.
In addition, a new agreement in the Drone Deal format has been prepared for signing. In his current message, Zelensky did not specify with which country exactly the document will be signed. In early September, Ukraine and Canada signed a declaration on defense and security cooperation, which the Office of the President called the first step towards implementing the Drone Deal.
The sixth summit of the international Crimea Platform will also take place in New York. It is scheduled for September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Organizers expect the participation of Ukraine's international partners at a high political level.
During the visit, Olena Zelenska will speak to students and faculty of Columbia University, and will also present the results of the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen at the UN venue. In addition, her program includes meetings with representatives of American business, philanthropists, and the President of the World Bank.
