Rubio: There is no energy truce agreement between Ukraine and Russia yet

There is currently no agreement on an energy truce between Ukraine and Russia, and Washington believes the war should end through a negotiated agreement, not through a decisive military victory for either side, said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with WABC Radio on September 22.

Answering a question about the latest developments around Ukraine and Russia and a possible agreement on halting strikes on energy facilities, Rubio stressed that "there is no agreement now." He also said that ending the war is in the interests of both sides, but achieving this diplomatically has not been possible yet.

According to the Secretary of State, President Donald Trump is ready to help bring positions of Kyiv and Moscow closer if there is an opportunity for progress. The United States, Rubio added, will continue contacts with both sides and look for opportunities to end the war.

"This war in Ukraine will end through an agreement reached through negotiations," Rubio said.

He also expressed the opinion that the conflict will not end with a "decisive military victory" for either side.

The statement came amid talks between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York. After their meeting on September 22, the Office of the President of Ukraine reported that the sides discussed possible de-escalation steps that could open the way to diplomacy, as well as support for Ukraine before winter.
