Israeli media claimed the mobilization of a Hasid: the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine clarified the situation

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) has denied reports of the alleged mobilization at the Ukrainian-Romanian border of an Israeli citizen who was returning after the Rosh Hashanah celebration in Uman.

According to the SBGS, during border clearance it was discovered that the man, in addition to Israeli citizenship, also holds Ukrainian citizenship and was listed in databases as a person liable for military service who is wanted.

For this reason, border guards handed him over to National Police officers for further action in accordance with established procedure.

The SBGS separately emphasized that border guards do not carry out mobilization measures at checkpoints. Foreign citizens are also not checked for military registration during border crossing.

Thus, according to the agency, the reports that an Israeli citizen was mobilized directly at the border do not correspond to the circumstances of the event.

The story gained publicity after publications in Israeli media. On September 18, Behadrei Haredim, citing “Pargod News,” reported about a 49-year-old Bratslav Hasid who was born in Ukraine, has lived in Israel for many years, and was returning from Uman after the Rosh Hashanah celebration.

According to the initial version of Israeli sources, the man was stopped at the border with Romania after a document check and later allegedly sent for military service. Relatives and acquaintances claimed that for some time they could not contact him.

Later, Israeli Walla named the man as Yonatan Karlinski-Mashek, a 49-year-old resident of Jerusalem. The outlet also noted that he was born in Ukraine and moved to Israel about 14 years ago.

At the same time, the SBGS did not confirm the assertions of Israeli media about his actual mobilization. Officially, the Ukrainian side has so far only reported that the man holds Ukrainian citizenship, that he is wanted as a person liable for military service, and that he was handed over to the National Police.
