Bad weather leaves over 600 settlements in Ukraine without power

Due to heavy rains and strong wind gusts, as of the morning of September 24, more than 600 settlements in eight regions of Ukraine are completely or partially without power. Simultaneously, new power outages have emerged in several other regions due to Russian strikes.

According to Ukrenergo, the consequences of the bad weather have been recorded in Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Kyiv, and Chernihiv regions. Repair crews are already restoring damaged overhead power lines, although difficult weather conditions persist in some regions.

Separately, as a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, new blackouts have occurred in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Vinnytsia regions. Where the security situation allows, power engineers are already carrying out emergency restoration work.

Amid the worsening weather, electricity consumption in the country has also increased. As of 09:30, it was 1.8% higher than at the same time the previous day.

Ukrenergo explained this by cloudy and rainy weather across almost all of Ukraine. Because of this, the output of household solar power plants decreases, so households draw more electricity from the general grid.

The daily maximum consumption on September 23 was also 3.3% higher than the previous day.

Due to the increased load on the power system, Ukrenergo urged Ukrainians on September 24 to limit the use of powerful electrical appliances from 10:00 to 22:00.

At the same time, the company emphasizes that the situation in the energy system may change, so consumers should follow notifications from their distribution system operators.
