Government postpones return of full product labeling rules until April 2027

The Cabinet of Ministers has postponed the return of full requirements for labeling food products and feed until April 1, 2027. Thus, the simplified regime, which was supposed to end on October 1, 2026, will be in effect for another six months. RBC-Ukraine reports on the government's decision.

Previously, the government planned to return manufacturers and importers to standard rules from October 1. As the Ministry of Economy and Environment explained, after the end of the transition period, the information on the packaging had to fully correspond to the actual composition of the product, in particular the recipe, nutritional value and allergen data. Mandatory information also had to be indicated in the state language.

Simplified rules were introduced in the spring of 2022 due to logistics disruptions, shortages of certain raw materials and supply problems. They, in particular, allowed the import of certain products with labeling in a foreign language, and enterprises - to use leftover packaging materials.

In July, the government decided to terminate these exceptions from October 1, 2026. Now this transition has been postponed until April 1, 2027.
