Orsk Refinery halts oil processing after Ukrainian attack - sources

Russia's Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery halted oil processing on August 11 following a fire caused by a Ukrainian drone attack.

Reuters reports this citing two industry sources. The agency characterizes the facility as a medium-capacity Russian refinery.

Drones attacked the plant in Orsk, Orenburg Oblast on the night of August 10–11. After the strike, a fire broke out on the premises.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on Orsknefteorgsintez by units of Ukraine's Defense Forces. The military called the plant one of the largest oil refineries in Orenburg Oblast and a critical facility of the Russian fuel and energy sector.

According to the General Staff, the refinery's capacity is about 6 million tons of oil per year. The enterprise produces automotive gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.

Immediately after the attack, the Ukrainian side said the scale of damage to the facility was being assessed. The information on the halt in processing indicates that the fire had an impact on the plant's production activity.
