The interbank market imbalance forced the NBU to intervene: a review of the foreign exchange market.
На interbank currency market on Thursday, August 20, a strong imbalance of demand and supply arose, caused by exporters sharply reducing the supply of currency after the end of the tax payment period.
The National Bank had to urgently intervene: already at 10:50 it entered the interbank market with another intervention and began to satisfy buyer applications. Trading, which took place in the range of 44.65-44.69 UAH (yesterday at the same time traded at 44.72-44.75 UAH), somewhat revived, and price tags even fell to 44.72 UAH on the "bid" position.
Today in the Verkhovna Rada, a speech by NBU head Andriy Pyshny is expected, so specialists from 9 Institutska Street did not let the situation take its course that day and immediately intervened in what was happening.
The euro on the interbank currency market of Ukraine on Thursday is traded in the range of 52.17-52.23 UAH on the "bid" position - about 30-35 kopecks higher than yesterday's prices. The reason is the rapid growth of the euro on FOREX yesterday after the announcement of the decision by the US Treasury. At the time of writing, the euro has already reached $1.1699.
Cash dollar price tags have decreased compared to yesterday. If on Wednesday afternoon wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv sold the dollar at 44.83-44.85 UAH, today - at 44.79-44.80 UAH. In Kharkiv the dollar is sold today at 44.82 UAH, in Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro and Poltava - at 44.85 UAH, in Odesa and Khmelnytskyi - at 44.90 UAH. Ukrainian banks by 12:00 sell the dollar at prices from UAH 44.79 in Bank Lviv to UAH 45.20 in Idea Bank and International Investment Bank (IIB). As for the euro, at the moment it can be cheapest purchased at Commercial Industrial Bank for 52.05 UAH.
Oil prices continue to rise, even despite the fall of the dollar. The price of the most popular Brent brand this morning reached $93.84 per barrel and at the time of writing is traded in the range of $93.60-93.80 per barrel.
On crypto exchanges, prices for major cryptocurrencies rose sharply, reacting to the US Treasury decision and subsequent dollar fall. So, bitcoin on the most popular Binance crypto exchange jumped to $71,826 per coin (daily growth was about 12%), and Ethereum - to $2333.65 per coin (daily growth was about 19%). Currently, bitcoin is sold at $71,630-71,650, and Ethereum - at $2,275-2,280 per coin.
