He was ready to pay for the education of Mudra's daughter in the USA: SAP disclosed new arguments for Mykytas' bail of UAH 200 million
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) presented new arguments to justify its demand to increase bail for former MP Maxim Mykytas to UAH 200 million. Among them – data about his alleged readiness to finance two years of study and living expenses of the daughter of former Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Mudra in New York worth over UAH 10 million.
This is stated in the prosecution's appeal against the preventive measure for Mykytas. Its content was read out by a judge during the session of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
According to SAP's version, Mykytas has significant assets. The prosecution's appeal mentions transferring funds to Mudra's mother in Israeli shekels equivalent to approximately UAH 560,000, and a promise to continue transferring similar amounts every six months.
In addition, the prosecution refers to materials of covert investigative actions, from which, as they claim, Mykytas' readiness to pay in one payment for two years of education and living expenses for Mudra's daughter in New York emerged.
"Mykytas had the ability to financially ensure two years of education and accommodation for Mudra's daughter in New York – in one payment, in the amount of over UAH 10 million," reads the prosecutor's motion, which was read out by the judge.
Defense denies that money for education was transferred
Mykytas' lawyer emphasized that no actual payment for education was made. According to him, the prosecutor only talks about the former MP's readiness to provide about $250,000, but these funds were not transferred.
The defense also claims that Mudra's daughter does not study at the institutions mentioned in the covert investigative materials.
Thus, the prosecution's statement concerns not an executed payment for education, but Mykytas' financial capabilities and his alleged willingness to spend the corresponding amount. These are the circumstances SAP uses as one of the arguments in favor of a much higher bail.
SAP materials also mention possible kidnapping
The appeal also contains another previously undisclosed episode. According to the prosecution, a discussion between Mykytas and Dubovyk about the possibility of kidnapping a person was recorded.
Who exactly the conversation could have concerned was not specified in the read-out part of the motion.
SAP believes that these and other circumstances indicate risks that cannot be adequately prevented by the bail set by the court of first instance.
SAP demands bail of UAH 200 million
On August 21, the High Anti-Corruption Court placed Mykytas in custody with an alternative of UAH 30 million bail. The prosecution considers this amount insufficient and insists on UAH 200 million in the appeal.
The defense, on the contrary, calls even the bail set by the first instance excessively high and claims that Mykytas does not actually have the necessary funds. The lawyer also denies the risk that his client might hide from the investigation or court.
The court decided to hold part of the appeal hearing in closed session. According to the lawyer, they planned to discuss Mykytas' health condition and information constituting attorney-client privilege in another criminal proceeding.
Mykytas is a figure in the criminal proceeding publicly known as "Forrest Gump". In August, NABU reported suspicions in the case regarding the origin of funds used to post UAH 150 million bail for one of the defendants in the "Midas" case.
