Online divorce launched in "Diia"

The "Diia" app has launched an online divorce service. It can be used by couples who have jointly decided to end their marriage and have no common minor children.

The launch of the service was announced by the "Diia" team.

To apply for divorce, one of the spouses needs to create an application in the app. The other must confirm it in their "Diia", after which the system will automatically check the necessary information in the State Register of Civil Status Acts.

It is impossible to submit an application without the consent of the other spouse through the new service.

After submitting the application, there is a one-month period, after which the marriage will be dissolved. If the couple changes their decision during this time, the application can be withdrawn no later than four hours before the scheduled video conference.

Previously, for divorce by mutual consent, it was necessary to personally visit the Civil Registry Office (DRACS) at least twice and submit paper documents. Now the procedure can be done remotely via smartphone.

However, the new service does not apply to couples who have common minor children. In such cases, divorce is still processed through the court.

For citizens who do not use the "Diia" app, the possibility to submit a divorce application in person at the DRACS office remains.

The service was developed by the Ministry of Digital Transformation together with the Ministry of Justice, the State Enterprise "National Information Systems", the digital DRACS, the State Migration Service, and "Ukrposhta" with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian EGAP program.
