"Naftogaz" announced an open competition for the new chairman of the board

The supervisory board of NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" decided to hold an open competition for the position of chairman of the board of the company. The permanent head of "Naftogaz" has been absent since July, when its then head Serhiy Koretsky was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine. This was reported by "Naftogaz".

To prepare and conduct the competition, the company will engage an international firm specializing in the search for top-level executives.

The selection itself will take place with the support and coordination of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

"Naftogaz" stated that the competition should ensure a transparent and independent selection of candidates based on professional qualities in accordance with the corporate governance standards of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the expectations of the company's international partners.

The deadlines for accepting applications, requirements for candidates, and the approximate date of completion of the competition have not yet been announced.

Who currently heads "Naftogaz"

During the competition, Serhiy Fedorenko will continue to act as chairman of the board.

The supervisory board appointed him as the temporary head of "Naftogaz" on July 17, 2026, after Serhiy Koretsky moved to the position of Prime Minister.

Fedorenko previously served as the commercial director of the "Naftogaz" Group and a member of the company's board. He has over ten years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He previously worked as commercial director of "Ukrnafta" and "Ukrgazvydobuvannya", where he was responsible, in particular, for energy trading, logistics, and commercial operations.

Serhiy Koretsky headed "Naftogaz" from May 14, 2025. He was also selected as a result of an independent open competition, for which the supervisory board conducted an international search for candidates.

On July 16, 2026, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine. After that, the position of permanent chairman of the board of "Naftogaz" remained vacant, and management of the company temporarily passed to Fedorenko.
