OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services - a separate industry-specific product based on ChatGPT Work, designed for banks and other financial institutions. The service combines the GPT-6 Astra AI model with professional financial databases and can conduct research, build financial models, and prepare materials for clients.

The launch was announced by OpenAI. Initially, the company focuses primarily on investment banking and equity analysis.

The product was developed with the participation of Morgan Stanley and Evercore, which acted as OpenAI's development partners. According to the company, collaboration with banks helped identify two key challenges for financial teams - access to reliable data and quickly creating high-quality analytical materials.

Financial databases embedded directly into ChatGPT

One of the main differentiators of ChatGPT for Financial Services is the integration of professional data directly into the service. The product already includes datasets from Daloopa, PitchBook, and LSEG News.

They cover company financial statements, earnings call transcripts, fundamental data, private company information, and other data regularly used by investment bankers and analysts.

For some embedded data, companies do not need a separate contract with the provider or to set up a connector. OpenAI indexes and stores such datasets in its own infrastructure, which, according to the company, should improve search speed and accuracy of results.

At the same time, financial institutions can also connect their own subscriptions to external services and corporate data sources.

An important feature is detailed source citations. Users can verify from which table, document, or report excerpt ChatGPT took a specific figure or assertion.

From LBO models to client presentations

OpenAI positions the new product not just as a search tool. ChatGPT for Financial Services can perform full financial workflows - analyzing financial statements and company results, conducting business valuation, screening potential asset buyers, and building LBO models.

For example, during P&L normalization, the model can trace EBITDA adjustments, check report footnotes, and show which expenses the company excluded from calculations.

After analysis, ChatGPT can convert it into ready spreadsheets, documents, or presentations. Financial companies can also upload their own Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates and corporate formatting rules so that materials are automatically created in the desired format.

Demonstrated scenarios by OpenAI include financial statement analysis, LBO modeling, screening buyers for M&A deals, quarterly earnings analysis, and preparing investment presentations.

Special emphasis on privacy

For financial institutions, the product includes corporate access management and data control tools. It supports SAML SSO, SCIM, and user permission separation.

OpenAI also states that corporate customer data is not used by default to train its models. Information is encrypted during transmission and storage, and companies can configure data retention periods and send activity logs to their own compliance systems.

Product is not yet available to everyone

ChatGPT for Financial Services is not a new plan of the regular ChatGPT for individual users. It is a specialized enterprise version for financial institutions built on the ChatGPT Work infrastructure.

Currently, the service is available only to financial institutions that meet OpenAI's requirements. Companies are encouraged to contact the sales team or their OpenAI representative directly. Public pricing for the new product has not been announced.

OpenAI plans to expand the product beyond investment banking and equity analysis, adding other areas of the financial industry and new sources of professional data in the future.
