Russia spends almost three times more on the war than Ukraine - Zelenskyy

Russia spends around 2.7-2.8 times more resources on the war against Ukraine than Ukraine. At the same time, Kyiv needs about $157 billion this year for military needs, with part of the necessary funding still not secured.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with CBS News.

According to the president, Ukraine's need for war financing this year amounts to about $157 billion. At the same time, a deficit of approximately $27 billion remains.

Zelenskyy noted that the lack of funds, in particular, limits the ability to finance domestic arms production. The Ukrainian authorities have previously informed international partners about the need to close the defense financing deficit.

Comparing Ukrainian and Russian resources, a CBS journalist noted that Moscow spends approximately three times more on the war. Zelenskyy clarified that the ratio is about 2.7-2.8 times.

The president also stated that significant military spending creates problems for the Russian budget. According to him, difficulties have already arisen in Russia with financing certain social programs and supporting the population, as a significant portion of resources is directed towards continuing the war.

At the same time, Zelenskyy believes that economic pressure is not yet sufficient to force the Kremlin to stop hostilities. In his opinion, Moscow continues to rely on a significantly larger financial and human resource and is trying to use it to prolong the war.

Previously, Ukraine informed partners about the need to find an additional $27 billion for defense needs in 2026. Kyiv, in particular, is discussing the possibility of attracting international financing and funds from European support mechanisms for this purpose.
