On the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine, on September 22, there is a noticeable advantage in favor of dollar buyers. The volume of purchase orders for foreign currency is about $9 million against about $6.5 million in supply, and the main interbank deals are being made in the area of 44.80-44.81 UAH per dollar.

According to Bloomberg data, demand for the US currency exceeds the volume of sell orders by almost one and a half times.

Trading began cautiously: at the start, the difference between buy and sell orders for the dollar reached 14 kopecks, and there were practically no real transactions. However, already during the morning, activity increased significantly on both the buyer and seller sides.

As of 10:27, the main volume of transactions was in the range of 44.80-44.81 UAH per dollar.

On the cash market, the dollar also mostly stays near 45 UAH.

In Kyiv, wholesale operations with the dollar are in the range of 44.75-44.85 UAH, and with the euro - 51.70-51.85 UAH.

This quotation level indicates a relative balance of supply and demand among large participants in the cash segment, while on the interbank market, demand for dollars remains noticeably higher than supply.

In other cities, among the most favorable sale offers: in Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia and Lutsk - about 44.90 UAH, in Lviv and Odesa - 44.93 UAH, in Kharkiv - 44.95 UAH.

In a number of other large cities, the dollar is already being sold more expensively. In Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Rivne, the best offers reached approximately 45.10 UAH, and in Mykolaiv and Sumy – up to 45.15 UAH.

The highest buying rates among the cities shown were recorded in Lviv - about 44.97 UAH per dollar, Kharkiv - 44.95 UAH, and Poltava - 44.90 UAH.

In banks, the spread remains wider. On the cash market of financial institutions, buying rates at the time of monitoring were mostly within 44.20-44.72 UAH, and selling rates – approximately 44.82-45.20 UAH. In particular, some branches offered the dollar at 44.82-44.90 UAH, while in some banks the selling rate exceeded 45 UAH.

On the global foreign exchange market, the dollar also remains relatively strong after the recent rate hike by the US Federal Reserve and expectations of further tightening of monetary policy. The dollar index DXY on September 22 stays above 100 points, and during the session it rose to about 100.7 – near the highs for the last seven-eight weeks.

Against this backdrop, the euro is trading near $1.146. After the Fed's decision, the EUR/USD pair shifted to the lower part of the range of recent months, although expectations of further ECB rate hikes partially support the European currency.

Thus, in the domestic market, the main factor in the first half of the day was increased demand for foreign currency, while the external background also remains more favorable for the dollar.
