Ten banks received almost 90% of the profit of Ukraine's banking system
Ukrainian banks received UAH 54.07 billion in net profit for the first half of 2026. At the same time, 88% of this amount was concentrated in just the ten most profitable financial institutions.
According to Opendatabot, which analyzed the statistics of the National Bank of Ukraine, before taxation, 59 banks earned UAH 108.57 billion. This is 9% more than in the same period of 2025, when the figure was UAH 100.06 billion.
At the same time, the tax burden on the sector has significantly increased. In six months, banks accrued UAH 54.5 billion in income tax - more than half of the profit before tax. A year ago, the corresponding figure was UAH 21.99 billion.
The ten most profitable banks together received UAH 47.68 billion in net profit, or 88% of the result of the entire banking system. The top ten included three state-owned banks, five banks with foreign capital, and two privately-owned banks.
The absolute leader remains PrivatBank. In the first half of the year, it received UAH 24.56 billion in net profit - about 45% of the result of the entire banking system.

Five state-owned banks together received UAH 32.46 billion in net profit - 60% of the sector's total result. At the same time, their income tax expenses amounted to UAH 33.5 billion.
Banks with foreign capital earned UAH 11.91 billion in net profit. 13 out of 15 institutions in this group were profitable. Pravex Bank and the Transition Bank UTE Bank together received UAH 43 million in losses.
Privately-owned banks ended the half-year with a net profit of UAH 9.7 billion. Moreover, 72% of this group's result was provided by just two institutions: Universal Bank, on the basis of which monobank operates, earned UAH 3.85 billion, and PUMB - UAH 3.12 billion.
In 2026, the 50 percent income tax rate applies to banks again. In 2025, it was 25%. It is the increased taxation that explains the large gap between the sector's profit before and after taxes.
