Payment of UAH 5,000 for school: who is eligible for assistance and when the application deadline expires
Ukrainian families continue to apply for the "Schoolchild's Package" — a one-time payment of UAH 5,000 for each first-grader. The application can be submitted until November 1, so parents who have not yet applied for the assistance retain the right to do so.
In 2026, about 225,000 children are expected to enter the first grades of Ukrainian schools. More than 161,000 applications have already been submitted for the "Schoolchild's Package" payment, and almost 139,000 of them have been approved.
This is noticeably more than at the start of the program. In early August, when the first payments began, parents had managed to submit about 99,000 applications, and the state directed UAH 308.4 million to almost 61,000 families.
The amount of assistance is UAH 5,000 for each child enrolled in the first grade. Family income is not taken into account when awarding the payment. If a family has several first-graders at the same time, assistance can be arranged separately for each child.
One of the parents, an adoptive parent (or an adopter), or another legal representative of a first-grader can receive the money. The main condition is that the child must be officially enrolled in the first grade of an educational institution in Ukraine, and the relevant information must be entered into the state education system.
An application can be submitted through the "Diia" app. To do this, open the "Services" section, select "Assistance from the state" and then "Schoolchild's Package", indicate the child and choose a special account for crediting the funds.
For those who cannot use "Diia", a second option is available — a personal visit to any service center of the Pension Fund of Ukraine. When applying, you may need a passport, a taxpayer registration number and documents confirming the authority of the legal representative.
The payment is provided by bank transfer. The funds can be used for school supplies, books, children's clothing and footwear in stores that accept payment under the categories provided by the program.
For Ukrainian families residing abroad, an important restriction applies: assistance is not provided for a child who has left Ukraine for permanent residence abroad. The right to payment is also linked to the child's enrollment exactly in the first grade of a Ukrainian educational institution.
If the application has already been submitted but the money has not yet been received, there is no need to reapply. Applications are processed in stages, and the decision to award the payment is made by the Pension Fund.
The final deadline for submitting applications in 2026 is November 1. Therefore, parents who have not received an offer to apply for the "Schoolchild's Package" automatically in "Diia" can still check the child's enrollment information and, if necessary, contact the Pension Fund.
