Results of NMT-2026 have dropped in all mandatory subjects, mathematics remains the biggest problem

Average results of the national multi-subject test in 2026 have decreased across all three mandatory subjects compared to last year. At the same time, the share of participants who failed to reach the minimum threshold in at least one subject increased, with applicants facing the greatest difficulties in mathematics.

This is evidenced by the official report of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment based on the results of NMT-2026 and their comparison with the 2025 report.

The average result in the Ukrainian language showed the most noticeable decline, falling from 146.3 points in 2025 to 142.0 points this year.

The average score in mathematics decreased from 132.3 to 131.9, and in the history of Ukraine from 141.6 to 141.1 points.

At the same time, UCEQA calculates these averages only among participants who overcame the minimum threshold for the relevant subject and received a result on a rating scale of 100 to 200 points.

Almost 49 thousand participants failed at least one subject

In 2026, 48,590 participants failed to overcome the threshold in at least one subject. This amounts to 14.8% of test participants.

For comparison, in 2025 the number was 39,139, or 13.5%. Thus, not only the absolute figure worsened, influenced by the increase in the number of NMT participants, but also their share.

A full result on a scale of 100-200 points in all four subjects in 2026 was achieved by 280,797 participants, or 85.2%. Last year, 250,482 individuals passed all four thresholds – 86.48% of participants.

Among graduates of the current year, 87.1% of participants successfully coped with all four subjects. In 2025, this figure was 87.63%.

A more noticeable worsening was recorded among graduates of previous years. This year, 79.8% of them passed all thresholds, compared to 82.12% last year.

Mathematics remains the main barrier

The highest number of unsuccessful results again occurred in mathematics. In 2026, 39,888 participants failed to achieve the minimum threshold – 12.1% of those who took the mathematics subtest.

In 2025, 34,431 participants, or 11.9%, failed mathematics. The minimum threshold for this subject remained unchanged at five test points.

In 2026, 6,217 participants failed the Ukrainian language threshold, and 1,283 failed the history of Ukraine threshold. Last year, the corresponding figures were 1,148 and 463.

However, such an increase cannot be directly interpreted as a sharp deterioration in knowledge in these two subjects. In 2026, the requirements to pass the thresholds for Ukrainian language and history of Ukraine became stricter.

While in 2025, to receive a result in Ukrainian language it was enough to score seven test points, this year eight were required. The threshold for history of Ukraine increased from eight to nine test points. The general requirement is at least 15% of the maximum possible test points, and for Ukrainian language and history in 2026 one additional point was added to this figure.

Mathematics has the lowest average score among all subjects

Mathematics placed last not only in terms of the share of those who failed to meet the threshold. Its average result – 131.9 points – became the lowest among all subjects of NMT-2026.

The highest average score was demonstrated by participants who chose German – 156.0 points. Next came French with 151.9 points and English with 151.3.

Among other subjects, the average result stood at 143.7 points in biology and geography, 138.7 in chemistry, 137.2 in Ukrainian literature, and 135.9 points in physics.

Amid the decline in average scores, the number of perfect 200-point scorers increased

At the same time, the statistics of the highest results show an opposite trend. In 2026, 4,002 participants scored a maximum of 200 points in at least one subject.

Of these, 3,712 individuals received 200 points in one subject, 260 in two, 28 in three, and two participants achieved the maximum 200 points in all four subjects.

In 2025, at least one 200-point result was achieved by 2,745 participants: 2,459 in one subject, 252 in two, 31 in three, and three in all four subjects.

Looking at individual subjects in 2026, the greatest number of maximum results was recorded in English – 2,194. Mathematics was passed with 200 points by 1,152 participants, history of Ukraine by 366, Ukrainian language by 267.

Thus, the results of NMT-2026 show two simultaneous trends: a decrease in average scores in all three mandatory subjects and an increase in the share of participants who did not meet at least one threshold, together with a rise in the number of applicants with perfect scores.

At the same time, NMT results are not an assessment of the knowledge level of all graduates of Ukrainian schools. NMT is an entrance examination taken by those who plan to use its results for admission to higher education institutions.
