Honcharenko claims strike on Zhuliany airport before Witkoff and Kushner's visit

A Russian drone allegedly struck two Yak-40 aircraft at the "Kyiv" airport in Zhuliany on the morning of September 4. This was stated by People's Deputy Oleksii Honcharenko, who linked the attack to the planned visit to Kyiv of US President's representatives Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Sunday, September 6.

According to Honcharenko, Witkoff and Kushner were supposed to arrive in Ukraine the day after visiting Moscow on Saturday.

At the coordination stage, the possibility of them flying directly to Ukraine by plane was considered. The MP claims that the American side had doubts about this option but was close to agreeing.

Later, Honcharenko clarified that, according to preliminary information, two old Soviet passenger aircraft Yak-40 were hit in Zhuliany as a result of the Russian attack.

According to him, these planes had not performed regular flights even before the start of the full-scale war.

American delegation's route may be changed

Honcharenko suggested that after the attack, Witkoff and Kushner will most likely arrive in Kyiv by ground transport, not by plane.

The MP also expressed the opinion that the strike could have been a demonstrative signal from Moscow ahead of the negotiations. At the same time, there is currently no evidence that Russia deliberately targeted the aircraft specifically because of the American delegation's possible route.

Official Ukrainian agencies at the time of publication also did not report on damage to two Yak-40 aircraft in Zhuliany and did not confirm a link between the attack and the upcoming visit of US representatives.

Kyiv Post also reported on the strike, but removed the publication

The Kyiv Post also reported on the Russian drone strike on an aircraft at the "Kyiv" airport in Zhuliany. Later, the corresponding post disappeared from the publication's Telegram channel, but its information was republished by NV.

According to NV, citing Kyiv Post, Russian forces struck an aircraft in Zhuliany. At the same time, the media did not provide details on the type of aircraft or the extent of the damage.

Thus, Oleksii Honcharenko remains the main source of information regarding the damage to two Yak-40 aircraft and the possible link between the attack and Vitkoff and Kushner's route.

Zelensky confirmed preparations for a meeting in Kyiv

The upcoming visit of US President's representatives to Kyiv was confirmed by Volodymyr Zelensky. According to him, the Ukrainian team is in constant communication with the American side and is already preparing for the meetings.

The President reported that preliminary dates have been set, and the American side has confirmed meetings both in Moscow and in Kyiv.

"We expect to see the representatives of the President of America here in Kyiv. We have confirmation from them: there will be a meeting in Moscow and in Kyiv. We expect a meeting in the coming days", - Zelensky stated.

At the same time, Zelensky did not specify the means by which the American delegation would arrive in Ukraine. Information that Witkoff and Kushner could have flown by plane, and after the Russian attack may change the route, was announced by Oleksii Honcharenko.
