Russia has attacked passenger trains for the second day in a row: a commuter train in the Kharkiv region was hit (Updated)

Russian forces are attacking passenger trains in Ukraine for the second day in a row. On the morning of September 9, jet drones struck one of the railway stations in the Izyum community in Kharkiv region. Two cars of a passenger electric train caught fire, eight people were injured. The day before, the Russian Federation attacked passenger trains in other regions of Ukraine at least three times.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported the new strike.

According to rescuers, Russian forces used jet UAVs. After the strike, two cars of a passenger electric train caught fire at the railway station.

The fire was extinguished by SES rescuers together with the local fire brigade. Eight people were injured as a result of the attack.

Russia attacked at least three passenger trains the day before

The new attack continued a series of strikes on passenger rail transport. On September 8 alone, Russian forces attacked trains in Ukraine at least three times.

In the morning, a Kyiv-Sumy train came under attack. A monitoring team of "Ukrzaliznytsia" detected the threat in advance and stopped the train. Passengers, the train crew, and the locomotive crew left it before the attack.

According to local sources, the train was attacked by two Shahed-type strike drones. After the hits, a fire broke out. SES evacuated 90 people, and buses of rescuers and local authorities were involved for their further transportation. No one was injured in this case.

Later, Russian forces attacked the regional train Dnipro-Zaporizhzhia. Head of the board of "Ukrzaliznytsia" Oleksandr Pertsovskyi reported a targeted hit on the train.

It was also stopped in advance, and passengers were moved to a mobile shelter nearby. After the hit, a fire broke out, but passengers were not injured.

Railway worker killed during third attack

On the same day, a Russian drone attacked another passenger train in Zaporizhzhia. Passengers managed to evacuate before the strike, but a railway worker died as a result of the attack.

After the first hit, a car of the electric train caught fire. About half an hour later, Russian forces again attacked the rolling stock, after which a fire broke out in another car.

Due to the constant threat of repeated strikes, rescuers had to interrupt extinguishing and move to shelters.

Thus, from the morning of September 8 to the morning of September 9, at least four separate Russian attacks on passenger trains or railway facilities with passenger traffic were recorded. In three cases, timely detection of the threat allowed passengers to evacuate in advance.
