Russia attacked the 'We Are Ukraine' TV channel during a live telethon broadcast
A Russian strike drone attacked the building of the TV channels 'We Are Ukraine' and 'We Are Ukraine+' on the afternoon of September 8. At the moment of the strike, journalists were working on the live broadcast of the national telethon 'United News'. The building was partially destroyed; five people are known to have been injured.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported this.
According to him, the Russian strike drone attacked the building of the TV channel right in the middle of the day, while journalists were on air.
As a result of the strike, the building suffered partial damage. All necessary services are working at the scene. SES rescuers extinguished the fire that broke out after the attack.
At the time of Zelensky's statement, five injured people were known. The President noted that their number could increase.
The TV channel reported that the main damage was to the newsroom and offices. At the time of the attack, 'We Are Ukraine' continued to work on the live broadcast of the telethon.
The TV channel's office has already been damaged before
This is not the first time the premises of 'We Are Ukraine' have been damaged as a result of a Russian attack.
On the night of August 20, the office of the TV channel was damaged during a massive strike on Kyiv. Then the windows in the building were blown out, the newsroom was damaged, and the blast wave blew off part of the ceiling in the corridors. There were no injuries among the staff, and the TV channel continued its work.
Zelensky called on the world to react to the attack
The President called the use of strike drones against media "a new page of Russian degradation" and called on Europe and the world to react to the attack.
"No strike on Ukraine and Ukrainians – on life – can be left unpunished. Russia must be stopped, and this is possible only through joint efforts", – stated Zelensky.
