Zelensky expects first results of negotiations with Russia as early as September

Ukraine is counting on new negotiations with American officials in late September, and the first results of the renewed peace process with Russia may appear by the end of the month.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this on September 10 during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

According to Zelensky, the Ukrainian side expects continued contacts with representatives of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump in late September. Kyiv expects that by that time the negotiation process will already be able to yield first practical results.

At the same time, the president did not predict achievement of a full-fledged peace agreement within such a timeframe. It is about advancing the negotiations and emergence of concrete results of diplomatic work that intensified in early September.

A new stage of negotiations began after Trump's representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Moscow, after which they arrived in Kyiv on September 6 and held several rounds of talks with the Ukrainian leadership.

After that meeting, Zelensky said that the American side helped unblock the negotiation process. Kyiv and Washington discussed possibilities for resuming negotiations, security guarantees for Ukraine, territorial issues and economic guarantees after the end of the war.

"We all want to end the war as soon as possible," — Zelensky said following the talks on September 6.

At that time, the president also emphasized that the most difficult issues, in particular territorial ones, should be resolved at the level of leaders.

Earlier, Zelensky also said he expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in the second half of September. One of the opportunities for such contact is the events of the UN General Assembly in New York, which will take place around the 20th of the month.

In addition, Ukraine and the United States are discussing the possibility of returning to a trilateral negotiation format involving Russia. Among potential venues, Zelensky previously named the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Turkey.
