Kyiv and Moscow held a new stage of repatriation, bodies of hundreds of fallen returned to Ukraine

In Ukraine on September 17, within the framework of repatriation measures, the bodies of 252 fallen were returned. According to the Russian side, they belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Investigators of law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will now conduct the necessary examinations to identify the repatriated deceased.

The Coordinating Headquarters emphasized that the return of the bodies was the result of the joint work of representatives of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman's Office, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other security and defense sector structures.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also contributed to the repatriation measures.

The Russian side stated that the current repatriation took place at the "Nova Huta" checkpoint on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev reported that Russia transferred 252 bodies, and the Ukrainian side transferred 23 bodies. The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters in its statement does not provide data on the number of bodies transferred to Russia.

The previous stage of repatriation took place on August 13. At that time, Ukraine returned the bodies of 261 fallen, which, according to the Russian side, belonged to Ukrainian military personnel. Examinations and identification procedures were also conducted after the return.
