Official from the 'Carthage' tapes resigns from the Prosecutor General's Office

The Head of the Information Technology Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, Ivan Tymoshenko, whose name appears in the materials of the anti-corruption operation "Carthage," resigned of his own accord. He left the position on September 11 — after the NABU and SAPO exposed a probable scheme of "protection" for fraudulent call centers.

The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office informed "Slidstvo.Info" about Tymoshenko's dismissal. At the same time, SAPO prosecutor Mykola Karas emphasized that Tymoshenko currently has no procedural status of a suspect in this criminal proceeding.

The Prosecutor General's Office also began an internal investigation on September 5 into individuals whose names were mentioned in the recordings released as part of "Carthage." Among them, Tymoshenko's actions are also being checked. There are currently no results of this investigation.

NABU and SAPO announced in early September the exposure of a criminal organization that, according to the investigation, systematically received unlawful benefits from fraudulent call centers and laundered the proceeds.

According to NABU, the organizer of the scheme was one of the heads of a structural unit of the PGO, who involved active prosecutors and close associates in it. There were five suspects in the case at the time of the operation's announcement. The investigation stated more than UAH 20 million was spent on real estate, jewelry, and other property, as well as more than UAH 10 million that could have been laundered through the accounts of close persons under the guise of business income.

As "Slidstvo.Info" writes, the investigation considers one of the key figures in the case to be the former Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department of the PGO, Serhiy Kropyva. According to law enforcement, it was he who at one time facilitated Tymoshenko's appointment as head of the IT department.

Kropyva and Tymoshenko have known each other for a long time through work. Before the full-scale invasion, both worked in the cyber police, and subsequently — in the Prosecutor General's Office. In 2022, they left the PGO almost simultaneously.

In 2023, Kropyva became Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration for Digital Development, and Tymoshenko later served as Acting Director of the Regional Department of Digital Development, Information Policy, and Cyber Protection.

Subsequently, both returned to work in the Prosecutor General's Office.

The materials of NABU and SAPO also included recorded conversations in which Kropyva assigned Tymoshenko organizational and everyday matters. In particular, during a court hearing, the SAPO prosecutor quoted a conversation about booking tickets and hotels before Kropyva's and then Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko's business trip to Spain.

According to the investigation, Tymoshenko also participated in collecting money among acquaintances and colleagues for gifts for Kropyva. In one instance, the discussion was about choosing a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Separately, "Slidstvo.Info" previously drew attention to the income of relatives of officials whose names appear in the "Carthage" materials. According to journalists, Tymoshenko's wife declared approximately UAH 17 million in income over about two and a half years of entrepreneurial activity. The SAPO prosecutor told the publication that the investigation is checking the use of sole proprietorships by close persons for possible money laundering. The mere fact of receiving business income does not prove its illegal origin.
