In the center of Kyiv, as a result of a Russian drone attack, a building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine caught fire. A large-scale fire broke out at the site, rescuers are evacuating people. There are reports of deaths and injuries.

Local Telegram channels and "Radio Svoboda" first reported the hit on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Later, the information was confirmed by Oleksandr Sazanovych, the head of the Shevchenkivskyi District State Administration in Kyiv.

He has not yet named the number of dead and injured. According to him, all emergency and relevant services are working at the site, and information about the consequences of the strike is being clarified. Sazanovych called on residents not to approach the impact site and not to interfere with the work of rescuers.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that a woman was killed as a result of the strike on the Shevchenkivskyi district.

According to Telegram channels, after the hit, the building was engulfed in flames. At the time of the first reports, people were still inside, and units of the State Emergency Service were arriving at the scene.

Local channels are publishing videos of the massive fire. The footage shows people near the windows of the smoke-filled building. Information about possible victims is currently being clarified.

Emergency services are working at the strike site. There are no data yet on the extent of destruction, damage to scientific equipment or archives.

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the country's highest state scientific organization. Its structure includes dozens of scientific institutions and institutes.

Russian attacks have already repeatedly damaged Ukrainian scientific infrastructure. According to the NAS itself, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 300 facilities of the Academy's property complex have been completely destroyed or damaged.

On September 28, Kyiv has been under attack by Russian drones throughout the day. City authorities reported hits and fires in several districts of the capital, including at a gas station, office and non-residential buildings.
