Canada to allocate additional $640 thousand to help Ukrainians after captivity and occupation

Canada will additionally allocate 863 thousand Canadian dollars (about 640 thousand US dollars) to support Ukrainians who suffered in Russian captivity or occupation. Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announced this in Toronto, according to Укрінформ.

“I am announcing the allocation of more than 863 thousand dollars to support Ukrainians who faced persecution due to the horrific Russian war. Among other things, it involves assistance to victims of conflict-related sexual violence, as well as support for Ukrainian non-governmental organizations working with returned civilians, prisoners of war, and children and their families”, - said Anand.

She reminded that earlier this month Canada already allocated about 6 million Canadian dollars to assist in the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children to Russia.

“That sum included funds intended to help with the reintegration, tracking and return of Ukrainian children, as well as countering their indoctrination, militarization and recruitment. Together these two packages bring Canada's support, especially in returning Ukrainian children home, to almost 7 million dollars”, - the minister summarized.

As reported, the second international conference on the return of Ukrainian children, detained civilians and prisoners of war began today in Toronto. This conference is co-organized by Canada, Ukraine and Norway.
