The Cabinet of Ministers allocated over half a million hryvnias for the protection of state IT systems

The Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 518.3 million from the state budget reserve fund to strengthen the backup information systems of government authorities. The funds are expected to help restore the operation of state services faster after Russian shelling or cyberattacks.

Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi announced this on Telegram.

According to him, the funding will be directed to the creation of geographically separated backup environments and sites for state information systems.

These funds will also be used to develop cloud infrastructure, purchase server equipment and software, as well as backup and data recovery systems.

The government expects that such infrastructure will allow faster restoration of state systems and electronic services to operation in the event of physical damage to equipment due to Russian attacks or after large-scale cyberattacks.

The state is preparing distributed protection of data centers

The decision to allocate funding is a continuation of the previously announced strategy for protecting digital infrastructure.

Earlier, Koretskyi reported that Ukraine is preparing a multi-level protection model for data centers and other critical communication infrastructure after a series of Russian strikes on telecommunications facilities.

It is anticipated that critical systems will not be concentrated in one place. Some of the infrastructure may be located in protected or underground premises, some may be transferred to cloud environments, and some backup copies and capacities may be geographically distanced from the main sites.

Thus, the new UAH 518.3 million should finance the practical creation of the reserve infrastructure that the government announced earlier.
